Speaker: Alison Thompson on What’s Your Story? Why Writing a Book Could Be The Best Thing You Ever Do!

Everyone has a book in them, or so the saying goes. But how many of us have the time to get that book written and published? Alison Thompson wrote and published her first book in just 6 months and it created a host of opportunities for her, including professional speaking gigs, articles in leading magazines, local radio interviews and even national TV appearances! In this talk Alison will talk about why writing a book can benefit your business and take you through five key areas of writing and publishing so you go away with a better understanding of how it all works and how you could publish your book too.

The talk will cover:

  • Five reasons why you should write a book
  • Self-publishing v. traditional publishing deals
  • How to work out what to write about – and who to write for
  • The four key stages of publishing a book
  • To Amazon … and beyond!

Alison Thompson, AKA The Proof Fairy, wanted to write a book for years but it wasn’t till October 2012 that she had the idea for her first book, The Boy from Hell: Life with a Child with ADHD. The book outlines Alison’s personal experience of raising a child with special needs, and it includes tips and advice for other parents dealing with ADHD. In her day job Alison is a proofreader and copywriter and she also offers workshops, coaching and one to one mentoring for people who want to write their first book.
