Guest Speaker: Hayley Chalmers of Short Couture – The Place for Petites on “Blogging for Success”
A highly experienced business and people manager, Hayley finally had enough of working for others and started Short Couture. Unable to find smart fashionable clothes for a 30+ petite working woman (she is 5’1”) she set about creating a business to fill that gap in the market. A frequent contributor to business forums, she also blogs about small business issues and is widely quoted in the business press.
At 5’1″ Hayley has always had the problem that clothes do not fit – they are too large in many ways and cannot always be adjusted. Seeing a gap in the market, Hayley started Short Couture in June 2009. She had no experience in fashion at all so had to research the fashion and ecommerce industries. The business was self financed with all her savings and it took 18 months to set up and start trading.
Hayley is also a prolific blogger and some of her posts are currently being used by the Forum of Private Business to lobby government and to raise awareness of and gather support to fight some EU proposed changes to the Distance Selling regs. Her blogs have also featured in BusinessZone and The FPB and have been quoted by Business Matters Magazine (Mail on Sunday) and on a Radio 4 programme
