Speaker – Alison Neale on How to Publish on a Shoestring
Everyone has a book in them, or so the saying goes. But how many of us have the time or money to get that book written and published? Alison Neale wrote and published her first book in just 6 months and on a budget of under £250 and in this talk she’ll give you a brief introduction to the publishing industry and take you through five key areas of writing and publishing so you go away with a better understanding of how it all works and how you could publish your book too.
The talk will cover:
Planning: How to work out what to write about, and some free tools to help you plan your book
Writing: Where, when and how to get started
Editing: What’s involved in the editing process and why you should always use a proofreader
Design: Tips and advice on how to format your book and where to find a cover design
Marketing: Using the internet and social media to promote your book at zero cost
There will also be the opportunity for a brief Q&A session on writing, publishing or ADHD.
Alison Neale, AKA The Proof Fairy, has thought about writing a book for years but it wasn’t till October 2012 that she had the idea for her first book, The Boy from Hell: Life with a Child with ADHD. The book is a very personal story of how Alison and her son have dealt with his special needs, and it includes tips and advice for other parents dealing with ADHD. In her day job Alison is a proofreader, copywriter and web builder, and she also offers training and mentoring in a range of areas.
